PORTS OF CALL

FRANKFURT
The most international city in Germany, the largest financial centre on the continent, the historical city of coronations, the city of Goethe and the Frankfurt School. In brief, the smallest metropolis in the world, in which there is a lot to discover at close hand. Whether this glance at the city’s home page is the start of a longer, maybe even permanent, stay on the banks of the Main, or if, as a business visitor, you only have a limited amount of time available: you will find that the city has interesting offers for extensive tours of the city, cultural enjoyment and attractive shopping trips waiting for you.

MILTENBURG
The Main River has some of the best half-timbered buildings. Despite its lovely setting along a curve in the Main River, the main attractions are the wonderful houses along its Haupstraße (Main Street) and the Mildenburg Castle ruins that towers over the old town. The half-timbered buildings of the Marktplatz (Market Square) form one of the most romantic settings in Germany.

WERTHEIM
Wertheim is a town in south western Germany, in the state of Baden-Württemberg. It is located on the confluence of the rivers Tauber and Main. Wertheim is best known for its landmark castle and medieval town centre. The holiday region of Wertheim offers countless kilometres along the finest cycling/ walking paths in Germany.

WURZBURG
Wurzburg is idyllically situated in the midst of one of the biggest wine-growing regions in Germany. Tradition comes to life at the many wine festivals in the city and surrounding area. This is a city bursting with baroque splendour and countless historical buildings. The university is the oldest in the federal state of Bavaria. The river Main flows through the middle of the city. And its bridges, the "Mainbrücken", are a key feature of the cityscape. The oldest and perhaps most famous bridge is the "Alte Mainbrücke" which links the Altstadt with the Marienberg fortress.

SCHWEINFURT
Schweinfurt a former free imperial city with an innovative outlook, modern buildings stand alongside their equivalents from centuries past, and a sense of civic pride is complemented by a strong working class ethos. Industry and art may at first glance seem to present a contradiction, yet Schweinfurt combines the two to exciting and captivating effect. Schweinfurt remains the heart of the European ball bearing industry, but is also a centre for art whose galleries and museums would make many a larger city proud.

BAMBERG
Bamberg a disarmingly beautiful architectural masterpiece with an almost complete absence of modern eyesores. Bamberg's entire Altstadt is a Unesco World Heritage Site and one of Bavaria's unmissables. Generally regarded as one of Germany's most attractive settlements, the town is bisected by rivers and canals and was built by archbishops on seven hills, earning it the inevitable sobriquet of ‘Franconian Rome’. Students inject some liveliness into its streets, pavement cafes, pubs and no fewer than ten breweries cooking up Bamberg's famous smoked beer, but it's usually wideeyed tourists who can be seen filing through its narrow medieval streets.

NURNBERG
Nürnberg is Bavaria’s second-largest city and the unofficial capital of Franconia, is an energetic place where the nightlife is intense and the beer is as dark as coffee. As one of Bavaria’s biggest draws it is alive with visitors year-round, but especially during the spectacular Christmas market. For centuries, Nuremberg was the undeclared capital of the Holy Roman Empire and the preferred residence of most German kings, who kept their crown jewels here. Rich and full of architectural wonders, it was also a magnet for famous artists, though the most famous of all, Albrecht Dürer, was actually born here. ‘Nuremberg shines throughout Germany like a sun among the moon and stars,’ gushed Martin Luther.

KELHEIM
Kelheim is a small town located at the eastern end of the Altmühltal Nature Park. Habitation in this important strategic area can be traced back to beyond the Bronze Age. The town itself has a small but attractive historic centre which is overlooked by the large Befreiungshalle ('Liberation Hall') monument on the Michelsberg hill above the town. It is also the location where the Danube river proper meets the linking Main-Danube canal and boat trips up the Danube to the historic Weltenburg Abbey are popular with visitors.
